Springfield, OH

Greetings from Springfield Ohio Mural

Greetings from Springfield, the home of our fifth and newest mural in Ohio!

The Springfield Foundation got in touch with an idea to help carry out their mission of improving the quality of life for residents of Clark County. We were honored to provide them with a bright postcard mural to brighten up downtown Springfield. Alongside a few other projects, we were excited to be a part of all the good change happening around town.

We had to fly into Ohio for this project due to our schedule. However, it’s never a problem to go back to Ohio since we have so many friends and family there. We checked into the local hotel, and toured around town before getting to work. We immediately noticed the charm and character on the historic buildings like pictorial stained-glass and gorgeous architecture from the early 1900’s. On that Saturday, we checked out their weekend Farmer’s Market, Annual Food Truck Competition at Veteran’s Park and got all the food tips from the locals. Our favorite spot in town ended up being Salato Deli which was right next to the wall.

Springfield Historic Building

Victoria Richards from the Springfield Foundation had primed the wall and delivered lifts for us, so we were ready to go! She provided a staging area since we didn’t have the RV containing all our supplies, which was extremely helpful throughout the week. After extending the background a couple feet, we tried a new tool to lay down the blue background. The Graco electric cordless paint sprayer saved hours of work and sore muscles the next day from our previous method of rolling bucket paint. Although cleaning the sprayer took up some time. After two days of prepping and painting the background and outline, we were ready for our friends OSRS to come help out.

Multiple Artists at Work - Springfield Mural Team

We previously worked with Often Seen Rarely Spoken before on our Louisville mural, and they killed it. We knew we only a had a week to complete the mural with flights to catch after. They are dependable artists who know what they’re doing and this mural wouldn’t have gotten done in time without them! Thank you again to Ian, Jacob, Jeremy and Max for coming out to Springfield to paint with us!

Ohio Street Artist - Paint Supplies

During the creation of our mural, there was a lot of other public art going up. There was even another mural being painted around the corner, and we got to chat with the other artists. Everyone was extremely nice, and we were so happy to see the community being uplifted by art and color. The downtown space is so important for the public and developing it can really change a city for the better from within.

Some facts about Springfield, OH is that it’s the home of John Legend. Also, Dave Chappelle is from the next town over in Yellow Springs and still lives there today. As a matter of fact, we celebrated the completion of the mural with a trip there and joked about running into him. Literally, the second that we got into town we drove by him coming out of a coffee shop chatting with locals! It’s great to see how much he still contributes back to his own community and never lost sight of where he came from.

Mural Artists Taking a Break in Springfield, OH

Thank you again to Springfield, OH. We are always back in Ohio, so we’ll make it a point to stop by to check out the progress of the downtown area as it develops. At the time of writing this post, it looks like the area in front of the mural has even been cleaned up and it’s perfect for a photo backdrop. Just remember to tag us on Instagram!

Having a Greetings From mural in our small town was an amazing addition to our downtown! Our community is in the middle of a revitalization and the excitement over the mural created an amazing energy for our community. Working with the artists was smooth and easy. Communication was a breeze and the finished product is more than we could have imagined. We absolutely love our “Postcard” and have built a pocket park around it to highlight its beauty. Thank you for helping kickstart public art in our town!
